How to create and remove prescriptions for patients

Clinicians can prescribe medication to their patients when they create consultation notes.

Note: To prescribe medication to a patient, you must have a role assigned to you that gives you editing permissions for Patients and Consultations. For more information on roles, see here.

Create a Prescription

You can prescribe medication to a patient at any time:

1. Go to the Patients page.

2. Select the patient who you want to prescribe medication for.

3. Go to the Consultations tab.

4. Click New.

5. Fill in the basic details of the consultation notes.

  • Consultation type: Use the dropdown menu to choose the type of consultation

  • Date: Select the date that you want to link the prescription to

  • Note type: Use the dropdown menu to select a consultation note template, or Free notes

6. Click the Prescribe tag at the bottom.

7. Fill in the details for the prescription.

Note: Semble uses data from First Databank to ensure reliable and up-to-date information.

Medication

Start typing the name of the medication in the search bar, available dosages will appear next to the medication name when relevant.

CloudRx Integration: If your practice is integrated with CloudRx, you’ll see specific product options labeled accordingly.

Dosage

Fill in the dosage field.

  • Use the drop-down menu (select Adult or Children) to view recommended dosages.

  • Copy the most relevant dosage and paste it into the dosage field for accuracy.

Quantity

Enter how much or how many tablets to prescribe, some medication have a drop-down that you can choose from and others allow you to freetype.

Comments

Type any additional comments that you want to appear on the prescription

Show in summary

Tick this box if you want this prescription to appear on the patient's Summary page

8. Click Save at the top of the page.

The prescription appears in the patient's Consultations tab.

9. Select the consultation notes that contain the prescription.

10. Click Create prescription.

11. Select the practice location that you want to link the prescription to.

You are redirected to the Prescriptions tab, and the prescription is added to the patient's record.


Remove a Prescription

You can remove a prescription from a patient at any time:

1. Go to the Patients page.

2. Select the patient who you want to remove a prescription for.

3. Go to the Prescriptions tab.

4. Click the more options icon next to the prescription that you want to remove and select Delete.

5. Confirm the deletion.

The prescription is removed from the patient's record.
