Semble Connect: Choosing the Right Option for Your Practice

Learn about Semble Connect's three options - pre-built automations, workflow builder for Enterprise, and build with professional services - to help you choose the right solution for your practice's automation needs.

Semble Connect is our automation capability for organisations that use multiple systems that don't talk to each other and want workflows to run reliably in the background.

It helps you connect Semble to the rest of your tech stack, then orchestrate repeatable processes so your team is not stuck doing "glue work" by hand.

What Is Semble Connect?

✅ What Semble Connect is for

Semble Connect is designed to automate repetitive tasks and orchestrate workflows. It connects to external tools and runs rule-based workflows across systems using "if this, then that" logic.

❌ What it is not for

Semble Connect is not a replacement for building a custom product experience with a user interface. If you need a bespoke front-end (for example, a patient-facing app where users interact live), the Semble API is usually the right approach.

Who Is Semble Connect For?

Semble Connect is available on selected plans for larger organisations. If it's not included in your current plan, it can be added as an add-on.

Semble Connect is best suited for larger organisations where:

✅ Manual processes (such as copying and pasting tasks) are causing inefficiencies across your team and causing processes to break

✅ You need to scale operations across services, sites, or teams

✅ You have someone in-house comfortable with low-code tools (or developers)

✅ You have budget for professional services support to build automations without access to developers

A note for smaller practices

Semble Connect is a powerful capability. It can automate repeat work across Semble and other external tools (like HubSpot or Salesforce), but it works best when you have the capacity to own automations day to day.

Building reliable workflows takes time to define the process, map the right data, test edge cases, and update things when your operations change. If you already have someone comfortable with low-code tools (or access to a developer), you can absolutely self-serve.

If you are currently considering a custom integration to remove a high-cost manual process, Semble Connect with a scoped professional services project can be a lower-risk, more cost-effective solution than building and maintaining something bespoke.

If you do not have that internal capacity, our Customer Success team can help you choose the right route. They can:

  • Help you clarify what you are trying to achieve within your budget and whether Semble Connect is the best fit

  • Guide you on what may need professional services

If Semble Connect is not the right option right now, we will still support you.

We'll start by checking whether Semble already supports the outcome you want, and show you the simplest way to achieve it using existing features and best practice workflows.

We can keep you updated on simpler, pre-built automations as they become available.

How Semble Connect works

Think of Semble Connect as four building blocks:

1. Connect your tools

Semble Connect lets you connect Semble to over 1,200 external tools (such as HubSpot, Mailchimp, Salesforce), so you can integrate without building custom integrations from scratch.

2. Use the Semble connector to automate inside Semble

The Semble connector is a Semble-managed integration to the Semble API. Designed to trigger workflows and automations from Semble, making it easier for you to connect to your business-critical operations. Semble maintains this connector, so changes in the API are reflected in the connector.

3. Build workflows visually (with flexibility when you need it)

Use the workflow builder to define triggers, rules, and actions visually. It is designed to be understandable and maintainable by operations and IT teams as processes evolve.

4. Run workflows in the background with monitoring and control

Workflows run automatically once your automation is live. You can monitor automations, handle errors, and maintain an audit trail of changes so business-critical workflows stay reliable.

Examples of what you can automate

Example 1: A simple automation that removes a repetitive task

When a lab result is received in Semble, create a task assigned to the clinician who ordered the lab test to follow up with the patient.

Example 2: Orchestrate a workflow from Semble

Turn a repeatable manual process into an automated workflow.

Instead of your team doing lots of small steps across different screens and systems, you set up a single workflow that:

  • Pulls the right information from a source (like a spreadsheet)

  • Applies the rules you choose (for example, "if this value is X, then set label Y")

  • Then completes the actions automatically (like creating or updating records in Semble)

In other words: you define the process once, and Semble Connect repeats it for you at scale.

A workflow orchestration example: Bulk updating patients from a Google Sheet

For example, if you have a Google Sheet with hundreds (or thousands) of rows of patient data.

Without automation, you might do this manually for every row:
  1. Create or update the patient record in Semble
  2. Add a label based on a value in the sheet (for example, a service type, location, or priority)
With Semble Connect, that becomes one workflow:
  • Read the data from each row in the sheet
  • Create or update the patient in Semble
  • Apply the right label automatically based on the value in the row
So what used to be two manual steps per patient becomes one automated process that runs across every row, consistently and quickly.

Two ways to get started with Semble Connect

Option 1: Build and maintain automations in-house

This is great for organisations who:

  • Have capacity to learn the tooling and own workflows

  • Are comfortable with low-code tools and basic data concepts

  • Can test changes and monitor runs over time

Developer teams can go further using advanced tooling (for example, insert custom code) to make workflows more sophisticated and efficient.

Option 2: Get help from professional services to build automations for you

If you do not have internal capacity, our friendly professional services team can help you go from idea to working automation in a matter of days.

What you get:

  • Discovery to understand how your process works today and where it's causing you pain

  • Solution design (often including process optimisation)

  • Workflow diagrams for alignment on complex requests

  • Build and end-to-end testing

  • Handover with documentation so you can run confidently

NOTE: Professional services is delivered as a scoped project with a fixed cost.

Scoping your automation project

To help you prepare and get the most out of your session, these are the following questions we'll be asking you when we scope a project:

  1. Goal: What outcome do you want? What is causing you pain today?

  2. Trigger: What starts the workflow?

  3. Systems: Which tools are involved (including Semble)?

  4. Data: What fields are needed and what are the edge cases?

  5. Rules: What decisions need to happen (conditions and exceptions)?

  6. Timing and volume: Real-time vs scheduled, and how often it runs

  7. Owner: Who will monitor it and approve changes internally?

Note: If you are unsure we advise to start with one workflow that is high-volume and repetitive. That is usually the fastest path to measurable value.

Pre-built Connector Directory

Semble Connect offers access to over 1,200 connectors across two tiers: Standard and Enterprise. The tier determines which plan you need to use specific connectors.

Enterprise connectors require an Enterprise plan subscription. These systems are typically used by larger healthcare organisations and enterprises with complex integration needs, including hospital systems, advanced ERP platforms, and enterprise-grade data solutions.

Is Semble Connect included in my plan?

Semble Connect is available on selected plans for larger clinics. If it is not included in your plan, you can include it as an add-on for a monthly subscription.

Two things to know up front:

  • You will either need someone in-house to build the workflow automation, or you can engage our professional services team to scope and implement them with you

  • Plans include a task allowance (the amount of automation volume you can run each month). As your usage grows, we will work with you to define the best plan for your needs

What does Semble Connect cost?

Semble Connect pricing depends on two factors:

1. Connectors: How many external system(s) do you need to connect to? Which ones are they?

  • Not sure what you need? Check out our connector directory

  • You will need to be on an Enterprise plan to access any Enterprise connectors

2. Ownership: Will you build and manage workflows in-house (someone with time and low-code confidence), or do you need professional services to design and implement them? Will you need access to advanced developer tools such as the ability to write automations with custom code?

NOTE: If you do not have internal capacity to build and maintain workflows, buying Semble Connect as an add-on with professional services is a cost-effective option to remove a highly costly and ineffective process right away without paying for an expensive custom integration project.

What is a connector, a workflow, and a task?

  • A connector is a connection between Semble and another system

  • A workflow (sometimes called a recipe) is the set of rules that define what happens when something is triggered

  • A task is a discrete action within that workflow (each step counts as one task)

What happens if we exceed our task limit?

We do not pull the plug on critical workflows the moment you exceed a limit. The process is to review usage, understand what you are trying to achieve, and either reduce task usage or align your plan to the right task usage volume.

Do I need to be technical to use Semble Connect?

You do not need to be a developer, but you do need someone in-house with capacity to learn it and own it. The workflow builder is visual, but your team still needs to be comfortable using low/no-code tools to map data flows, define rules, test outcomes, and update workflows as processes change.

Do we need developers?

Not always. Many organisations can run Semble Connect with an ops or digital owner who is comfortable with low-code tools. Developers are useful for advanced requirements, internal systems, and improving task efficiency using custom code.

Can Semble build workflows for us?

Yes. If you do not have internal capacity, our professional services can scope, design, build, and test workflows, then hand over with documentation.

How does the Semble connector work?

The Semble connector is designed to automate workflows in Semble. It lets you trigger workflows from Semble activity and take actions inside Semble, without having to build directly from API documentation. Semble maintains it as a managed service, so changes in the API are reflected in the connector.

How is sensitive healthcare data handled securely?

Semble Connect can control data retention for workflows that process sensitive identifiers. This is designed so data can move from one step to the next without being stored as a record in the automation layer.

How is this different from other low-code tools?

Semble Connect is designed specifically for Semble and healthcare needs. Consumer-grade tools can be more prone to breaking, while Semble Connect is positioned as more robust for workflows you cannot afford to fail.

When should we use the API instead?

Use the API when you need a custom product experience with a user interface and live interaction. Use Semble Connect for background orchestration and workflow automation.
