Options for ordering TDL Labs

When ordering Labs with TDL, there are three different ways to collect samples and process lab tests. The method you choose will depend on your clinical workflows or patient preferences.

In this article:

Option 1: Samples taken in your clinic

Option 2: Samples taken at TDL's clinic

Option 3: TDL Tinies™ (Home Testing kits)

To start ordering labs, you must first ensure that your practice is integrated with TDL. For information on how to do this, click here.

Option 1: Samples taken in your clinic

With this method, your team collects the patient's sample in your clinic and sends it to TDL for processing. The results will be sent back to your Semble account to review and share with your patient.

How it works:

1. Order the lab in Semble as per the usual process (see Overview of Labs - Create a Lab Request).

2. Take the patient's sample within your clinic.

3. Print the TDL form from the patient's Labs section of their profile.

4. Print the sample labels and attach to the collection tubes.

5. Post the sample to TDL with the label attached to the collection tube, and with the completed form enclosed.

6. Results are returned to your Semble account and appear in the patient's Labs section of their profile.

When to use this option:

  • Your practice has phlebotomy facilities

  • Patients prefer to have samples taken during their appointment

  • Immediate sample collection is clinically necessary

Option 2: Samples taken at TDL's clinic

With this method, you order the test through Semble, but the patient attends a TDL clinic location for sample collection. The results will be sent back to your Semble account to review and share with your patient.

How it works:

1. Order the lab in Semble as per the usual process (see Overview of Labs - Create a Lab Request).

2. Print or download the TDL form from the patient's Labs section of their profile.

3. Provide a copy of the form to your patient (via email or as a paper copy).

It's important that your patient brings either a digital or paper copy of the form to the TDL clinic on the day, as this will help the TDL team find the right patient information by matching the order number on their form.

4. Email a copy of the form to the TDL front desk to notify them of the patient's upcoming visit.

5. Your patient attends the TDL clinic for sample collection.

6. Results are returned to Semble and appear in the patient's Labs section of their profile.

When to use this option:

  • Your practice does not have phlebotomy facilities

  • Patients prefer to visit a lab location near them

  • Scheduling flexibility is needed for sample collection

Note: Please contact TDL directly to confirm the front desk email address to use, and to enquire about available clinic locations for patients to attend.

Option 3: TDL Tinies™ (Home Testing kits)

With this method, TDL sends a testing kit directly to the patient's home. The patient collects the sample themselves and returns it to TDL by post. Results are sent back to your Semble account to review and share with the patient.

Before ordering a TDL Tinies™ kit, please make sure you have configured your lab product's settings correctly to be able to successfully place the order. More information can be found here: TDL TINIES™

How it works:

1. Order the lab as a TDL Tinies™ through Semble (see TDL Tinies™ - Ordering a TDL Tinies Kit).

2. TDL automatically receives the request and will sent the testing kit directly to the patient's home address.

3. Your patient completes the test at home, following the instructions included inside the kit.

4. Patient returns the sample to TDL using the pre-paid postage provided with their kit.

5. Results are returned to Semble and appear in the patient's Labs section of their profile.

When to use this option:

  • Remote consultations where patients cannot visit the clinic

  • Patients prefer at-home convenience

  • The test is suitable for self-collection (e.g. finger-prick blood tests)
